Info About Coming to Georgia and Schedule

Dear All,

We are within one week from converging on Brunswick, GA to support our friends Carmen, Clare, Liz, Mark, Martha, Patrick, and Steve during their trial. It will begin with jury selection at 9 a.m. on Monday October 21 at the federal court house downtown.

If you plan on coming we are looking forward to being together with you! If you have not done so please click here on this RSVP form to let us know you are coming: CLICK HERE TO RSVP

For those attending, we would like to share with you some details regarding the schedule we’ve created for our time together as well as some housing and meals information. We also have some items we’d like folks who are able to bring down with them and some activities to suggest that you may be interested in doing while in the area.

Housing and Helping

We have reserved Camp Glynn on Blythe Island, 10 miles from downtown Brunswick, from Friday Oct 18 – Sat Oct 26 where many of us will stay together. Other folks will be staying in various hotels, homes and Airbnbs in Brunswick.

We will have signup sheets available throughout the week for anyone interested in helping to cook meals, clean up afterwards, wash dishes, clean bathrooms, etc. in hopes that many hands will make the work light! We also need some people to forage for firewood, cut and split firewood, build and tend campfires. If you or your community can bring food to share, please do so. If you have recipes to share that would be good to cook for a large group of folks such as we will be, then please email them to Sarah Cool at coolsarahs@gmail.com.

Meals

Breakfast items will be available in the dining hall daily for those staying at Camp Glynn.

Lunch on Saturday, October 19 will be available for everyone at the park near our 2 p.m. peace vigil in front of Naval Base Kings Bay in nearby St. Marys. Lunch on Sunday, October 20 will be served for everyone at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick before heading over to the Ritz Theater in Brunswick for our Festival of Hope scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Lunch from Monday through Friday October 21 to 25 will be available at St. Athanasius Episcopal Church in Brunswick.

Dinners on Friday October 18, Saturday October 19 and Friday October 25 will be available for everyone in the dining hall at Camp Glynn on Blythe Island beginning at 6 p.m. Finger foods and desserts will be available on Sunday October 20 at the Ritz Theater in Brunswick during our Festival of Hope. Dinner on Wednesday October 23 will be available during our tribunal, which will be held at the Ritz Theatre in Brunswick at 6 p.m.

Campfires, a Talent Show, Pumpkins, and Yoga!

During evenings together at Camp Glynn on Blythe Island we hope to have camp fires and sing some songs together while rekindling old friendships and creating new ones. We’d like to have a talent show on the evening of Saturday October 19 in the chapel at Camp Glynn after dinner. If folks bring their yoga mats, perhaps there will be someone willing to lead us in yoga exercises throughout the week at the camp. Anyone wishing to create and lead chapel time during the week is encouraged to do so. And sometime during the week we hope to carve pumpkins together incorporating some sort of trident or peace theme, which we expect will be especially fun for the children among us!

Supplies to Bring

For those staying at Camp Glynn, please bring your own linens including sheets, light blanket or sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and washcloth. If you have extra sheets, towels and/or blankets to share, that will help out with folks flying down. You may also want to bring a fan, bug spray and a flashlight.

For those driving down, you are encouraged to bring camp chairs and hammocks for use during week in several different gathering places including the camp grounds, vigils, churches and parks. We also can use large water coolers in various locations if anyone wishes to bring theirs with them.

Other items we would like to have on hand:

  • A volleyball
  • Card & board games
  • Jigsaw puzzles

Restaurants

If you’d like to search out a meal on your own at some point, you might consider these local restaurants, all near or in downtown Brunswick:

  • Tipsy McSways
  • Basil Thai
  • The Yellow Deli
  • Marshside Grill
  • Indigo Coastal Shanty

Other Activities You May Enjoy

Visiting Jekyll Island ($8 per vehicle) or St. Simons Island, although swimming may not be desirable, since oil and tarballs have been found in the water from a capsized ship they are still trying to deal with.

Essential Info for Entering the Courthouse

Finally, if you have not yet done so, please read and prepare to adhere to the courtroom regulations and guidelines at http://bit.ly/CourtCode. At this point, we do not know what time or if we will be able to enter the court room on Monday due to the length of time it may take for jury selection. However, we can all vigil on the sidewalks with signs around the courthouse all day long, as we can every day, during the trial.
