DESCRIPTION:The Festival of Hope is a time to gather as a community to celebrate the plowshares action with inspiring musical performances\, poetry\, dance and presentations as we prepare to go into trial.\nSunday\, October 20\, 2019\n4:00 – 7:00 p.m.\n\nThe Historic Ritz Theater\n1530 Newcastle St.\, Corner of F Street\nBrunswick\, GA 31520\n  \nThe Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters of Georgia\nThe Ring Shout is among the oldest known African-American performance traditions surviving on the North American continent. The Shouters embrace and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the Geechee legacy through song and dance.  They have performed at numerous venues and festivals including the Smithsonian Anacostia Festival\, Beaufort Gullah Festival and Sapelo Island Cultural Day Festival. \nAviva and the Flying Penguins\nFeaturing vocally alluring songs of love and spirituality within a mix of reggae\, African\, and middle eastern influences. \nHermina Glass-Hill\nAward-winning public historian\, author\, Susie King Taylor scholar\, speaker and preservationist Hermina Glass-Hill is the founder and Executive Director of the Susie King Taylor Institute and Ecology Center. \nJames W. Douglass\nJames W. Douglass is a theologian\, activist and author of several books including The Non-Violent Cross: A Theology of Revolution and Peace)\, and The Human Revolution: A Search for Wholeness. He and his wife\, Shelley Douglass established the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action and Mary’s House\, a “house of hospitality” for homeless people in need of long-term health care. \nMembers of the Kings Bay Plowshares 7 \nThe Kings Bay Plowshares 7 face 25 years in prison for nonviolently and symbolically disarming the Trident nuclear submarine base at Kings Bay\, GA on April 4\, 2018\, the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King\, Jr.  Their trial begins on Monday\, October 21 in Brunswick. \nThe Festival will also include:\nBuddhist Monk Gilberto Zamora\nPoet Stephen Wing\nMusicians Joanne Steele and Steve Jacobs with possible appearances by Richie Stern and Ralph Hutchison\n\n*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   * \nIf you are coming and especially if you are planning to stay overnight for the trial please let the organizers know by filling out this form: http://bit.ly/RSVP-KBP7\n  \n  \n\n Housing\n\nWe have reserved an entire campground on beautiful Blythe Island\, about 20-30 minutes from the courthouse. Camp Glynn has cabin space for up to 140-150 people and tent camping space as well. This space also has a large kitchen and gathering hall and a large chapel.
